Great moderate trail that provides a unique view of Munds Wilderness and Cathedral Rock. Just when you thought you had seen all of Cathedral, this trail provides a unique view from the southeast side of this structure.
This trail starts out across the street from Bell Rock at a trailhead named Yavapai Vista. Finding Hi Line can be a little confusing since there are a series of short trails that are intertwined before you reach the trail. Regardless of which short trail you take, they all lead to Slim Shady Trail. Once you intersect Slim Shady head to the left and after a short distance you will see sign for Hi Line.
As you head up Hi Line Trail, you ascend halfway up the ridgeline before the trail flattens out. Once flat you will be hiking a 4-6 wide shelf…really cool. As you follow the shape of this unique ridge (Seven Warriors) you are graced with the wide open views of Sedona and Munds Wilderness. As you turn the corner halfway down the trail you will experience your first views of Cathedral—not sure seeing Cathedral can ever become commonplace.
Hi Line Trail continues past Cathedral and provides you with the opportunity to connect to Baldwin Trail, Templeton and Slim Shady for a 8.2 mile loop hike. For those willing to hike the 8.2 loop hike you are treated to beautiful section of trail along Oak Creek.

Greg (and team), Thank you for the awesome suggestions on where to hike this past weekend. We stopped in at the shop on Friday afternoon. I wanted to take my friends to trails that I had not been to before (checking them off my list). **Thanks for the book we purchased too.** We were glued to it in the car from trail to trail “Where’s the book, where’s the book”, we could not live without it. A must have and it made things simple and exciting.
Friday my friends and I completed Sugarloaf area near coffee pot rock (near that motel). Saturday we decided to head to Boynton Canyon first – then went to Airport loop. We ended up completing all of airport loop and enjoyed the planes too (we saw the fence but decided to keep going). Our favorite was (as you suggested) Hi Line trail. My friends and I hit it on Sunday morning early when the temperatures were cool. It was one of our favorites before heading to Phoenix airport 🙁 !! Loved seeing the bikers and the experience on the trails and views were incredible. That was my 3rd time to Sedona and we can’t wait to come back to do more. We live in Dallas so quite a change for us to be sitting back at our desks this week after such a treat/weekend in Sedona. Thank you for the info and all you do. April, Vessi and Boriana.
Awesome views & great workout
We spent a week in Sedona in late October, and did at least one trail each day. The HiLine – Baldwin loop was the highlight of our week, with incredible diversity in terrain. Looking forward to our next trip in a few weeks, when we will explore more of the area.
We did Bear Mountain which I would rate difficult and HiLine Templeton To Oakcreek trails were moderate to difficult and bit easier .. given distances it was great for endurance.
