Chuck Wagon Trail

Chuck Wagon Trail
Chuck Wagon Trail is more of a connector trail than a stand alone individual hiking trail. Chuck Wagon takes you through a low growth forest crossing through several arroyos along the way. The trail does have a tendency to “wander” a little bit due to it’s “mountain biking” roots—hikers tend to go on a straight route, while bikers attempt to lengthen a route to increase distance. Chuck Wagon is a great catalyst for linking longer adventures together. First, this trail provides excellent access to Devil’s Bridge. Second, trail connects Devil’s Bridge to Brins Mesa. Third, Brins Mesa to Mescal Trail/Boynton Canyon

It isn’t just a connector to Devil’s Bridge, Brin’s Mesa and Mescal. It can be hiked as a loop trail about 4 miles long. The views are very good as you see the scenery along 152 and other sites such as Doe, Bear and Wilson Mts. As a loop it can certainly be a satisfying hiking experience.

We started out opposite the Long Canyons TH and went to the intersection with Brins Mesa TH. It was very enjoyable, not difficult, with some amazing views. Going in to the canyon the trees were a nice break from the sun but also quite charming.

I use Chuckwagon as part of a short afternoon loop that takes about 2 hours to complete from Mescal parking area. I like Chuckwagon because it offers a diversity of terrain and fauna and has some hills.

Hogs Trail

Hogs Trail One of the most underrated areas in Sedona is Munds Wilderness. Many people in the past would take on this area because the predominant trail for this area, Broken Arrow, is adjacent to a heavily traveled jeep road. A new day has arrived…while you still must hike a portion of Broken Arrow to get to Hogs, the trail departs from the … [Read More...]
