Crescent Moon Ranch lies along Oak Creek directly across from Cathedral Rock. The ranch is a beautiful and popular day-use area for picnicking, photography, wading, sunbathing and walking. The Cathedral Rock vistas seen in so many photographs of the area were taken from this location. This hike is a scenic creekside stroll through riparian vegatation beneath the shadow of the eroding red buttes, framed by cottonwood and sycamore trees. The trail begins in the meadow and passes the old John Lee homestead, built in the late 1800’s. The path follow the creek upstream along the base of Cathedral Rock to a vortex site known as Buddah Beach. The area is studded with hundreds of hand-stacked prayer rocks.

Easy but gorgeous trail crossing Oak Creek Canyon. Tons of fun to do in the warmer months but have done it in the dead of winter. A photographer’s paradise year round.
The trail was flat and easy and went along the river. We went swimming In the river and were able to lay out on the rocks with the gorgeous red rocks in the background. We passed a rock garden on the way that felt zen and truly magical. This trail is perfect for beginners and anyone looking for an easy hike/stroll. The hike house suggested this trail for our family and it was perfect!
Drive in with plenty of parking. $5.00 day pass. We parked all the way in rear near the old mill. Fun short hike along the water but we also went off the main trail to a beautiful meadow. Stunning views of Cathedral rock. Large flat rocks at the end of the trail to sit with your feet in the water. Picnicked. Kids swimming.
